Aero-acoustic Noise Generated from Fans

Noise generated from HVAC fans is another source of noise generated from building parts which also can be very loud and annoying, particularly when the noise is characterized by a very sharp tone or tonal noise.

EASTechnology utilizes the in-house NST-Solver to predict the tonal noise generated from axial fans.  Main inputs to the NST-Solver are geometrical design parameters such as hub and shroud fan diameters, number of blades and the rotational speed. We also use the in-house NST-Optimizer to optimize an existing fan design from the point of view of tonal noise generation.

EASTechnology uses also CFD modeling in conjunction with LES (large Eddy Simulation) Turbulence modeling as these phenomena are very affected by the turbulence levels, and wind tunnel testing to help design teams identify, review or modify features that will minimize noise problems caused by a HVAC fans.  Improved noise quality is important for occupant comfort and building performance.
